This man has been identified as "Ten Eyck van der Veer" (or TenEyck Vanderveer).
The image was made around 1853, and if Ten Eyck is around 50-70 years old, he was
born
somewhere
between 1783 and 1803.
His mother was a Ten Eyck, his father a van der Veer. There are a lot of people in the family
tree
named that way, with double last names after mom and dad.
His first name could be "William" (or it could just say "mr", I'm not sure). There is a William
Tennant van der Veer, born 1817 making him 36 in this image. He seems older than that but
life was harder. Both his grandmothers have the last name Ten Eyck,
as they
were sisters.
It could be him, or it could be someone else entirely.
The family lived mainly in Warwick, Orange County, New York.
