It's possible this photo was made in the UK and then taken to South-Africa but I think it's very likely to have been made in Port Elizabeth where this was originally sold from. South-Africa had several early photographers. This photo has an English mat and an American case. From other South-African examples that I've seen, they too have a UK/USA combination of mat and case. The Dutch have been colonizers in South-Africa since 1652, and the woman's bonnet does look to be Dutch. |
