Notes

"Ruth Heitland taken at Fakenham when her parents were taken. Summer of 1854."

It's more likely the image dates to 1859 based on the style of her casing. Ruth was born in 1851, making her 3 years old in '54 and 8 years in '59.

She's holding a daguerreotype case by Claudet of London.

John Augustus Miles was an active photographer in Fakenham, in 1854 and 1859.

In 1858 a partnership between a John Miles and two other men working as photographers on Regent Street ended. Claudet was on Regent Street. Perhaps John Miles got his portrait taken at the famous studio and took it back home to Fakenham with him, where he let his sitters pose with it.
