"To Lilly and Alma, from their affectionate father J W Gloag, Christmas 1879"

John William Gloag was a veterinary surgeon who served in the Crimean War and in the 11th Hussars.
He served in the battle of Alma, after which he named one of his daughters. He and his family lived in Dublin.
He wrote many pieces for the veterinarian and was often named in the newspapers. Together with his wife
Sarah Anne Thompson he had 10 children. Both his wife and his daughters owned a family album.
