Early plate with Beard Patentee mat. Low in contrast and gray in tone. Tin tray behind the image. Signed "Barber" on the back.

In 1841 Alfred Barber was active as a photographer in Nottingham. He had previously worked for Richard Beard, received a patent in 1841, which he then lost again in 1843 after Beard sued him.
